EA House tour

PictureProtected walled courtyard
Six houses to tour on the Main Line, some recently built, some very designed and staged for a sale.  There were no real gardens to note, but that wasn't the focus of the tour.  The first estate did have a pool that would be fun for parties - and is for sale for around $8 million if it appeals.

My favourite was an exquisite converted barn, decorated with extraordinary taste and with a wonderful walled courtyard with a fountain and built in benches where we sat outside and ate lunch, wind-free.  The blue-stone soaked up the sun and created a wonderful micro-climate, the owner said put out a t a fire-pit in winter to extend it's use.

The last house on the tour was a grand old 15,000 sq ft Main Line estate built in the 1930s.  You stepped back into a bygone era with servants and house parties. Stepped terraces led down to a wonderful old pool and pool house, the bathrooms were remodelled and fabulous and it was on the market for a mere $4 million.

Then back home to our rather more modest estate to see our tulips in full bloom.

14,000 sq ft house, 22 acres & a pool
Walled courtyard and old outbuildings
1850s fieldstone dairy barn transformed
open seating and a fountain
Old rhododendrons shade a path
Swimming pool
Views up to house, Italian style stairs and fountain
Pool house
We passed a chicken coop with green roof
Our tulips in bloom
